Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) handed over training kits and assigned trainers to prominent personalities who will be participating in the MTC Knockout Project, an event that seeks to address and “collectively knock out” gender-based violence (GBV).
The training kit comprises boxing gloves, protective and head gear and a skipping rope.
Speaking at a media conference in Windhoek on Tuesday, MTC’s Chief of Human Capital and Corporate Affairs, Tim Ekandjo said the kits will be used by the personalities as they embark on three months of training to improve their fitness and boxing skills in preparation for the MTC Knockout Project which is slated for 12 October 2019.
Ekandjo added that the boxing personalities will be assigned trainers from the Nestor Sunshine Academy, Salute Boxing Academy and Kilimanjaro Boxing stable.
“Just as any other sport, boxing requires a high level of self-discipline and control. It is, therefore, dependent on the boxer and their trainer to work-out a suitable training session timeline for the preparation,” he added.
Confirmed bouts for the event will amongst others see KP Illest (rapper and NAMA award winning artist) go up against Paul da Prince (TV and radio personality) and Jossy Joss (radio station marketing manager) go up against Amos Shiyuka (business personality).
Other fights will feature D-Naff (NAMA award winning gospel artist) versus Luis Munana (model and TV personality); Theo Ishuna (news anchor) vs Marco Ndlovu (sports journalist); DJ Cheeze (radio personality) vs Sunny Boy (musician) and businessman Johnny Doeseb vs activist Job Amupanda.
The opponents for Mappz Kapofi (hip-hop artist) and Michael Vermeulen (music executive) are yet to be announced.
