The lifeless body of a man found dumped in a pit latrine at Otjiwarongo’s Tsaraxa Aibes informal area on Saturday morning has been identified as that of 25-year-old Matheus Shalongo Fernando.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Unit Commander for Community Affairs in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, in an interview with Nampa on Monday said the deceased was identified by his close relatives as Fernando, who hails from Rundu.
Mbeha said the deceased on Friday allegedly travelled from Rundu to Otjiwarongo, where he was killed that same Friday night.
“His body was on Saturday morning found with some visible fresh wounds on his head, showing signs as if he was hit to death with unknown objects,” she said.
A case of murder was opened in connection with the matter at the Otjiwarongo Police Station.
No arrest has been made in connection with the matter and police investigations continue.
