A 45-year-old truck driver and his passenger died instantly in an accident on the B1 road near Otavi on Sunday.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Community Affairs Commander in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha in a media statement said the deceased were identified by relatives as Vinia Mweshitale and 44-year-old Shaamwapeni Honge, who was a passenger.
“They are both from the Ohangwena Region. Their truck which was loaded with boxes of apples and they were traveling from Cape Town in South Africa to the Democratic Republic of Congo,” she said.
The accident occurred around 06h00, approximately nine kilometres south of Otavi.
It is suspected that the driver might have lost control over the truck, causing it to veer off the road to the left where it overturned, killing both occupants on the spot, Mbeha said.
Police investigations continue.
