An earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale was recorded 184 kilometres southeast of Lüderitz in ||Kharas Region at around 06h48 on Saturday.
A media statement issued on Monday by the Ministry of Mines and Energy said the geological survey within the ministry did indeed pick up on an earthquake located on the outskirts of Lüderitz.
It said the swallow earthquake with a depth of 15 kilometres was recorded 41 kilometres north of Rosh Pinah and was sensed by a few seismic stations of the Namibian Seismology Network, namely Windhoek, Kamanjab, Karibib, Ariamsvlei and Aus.
The earthquake recorded a latitude of -27.60 degrees south and a longitude of 16.81 degrees east.
The Ministry’s, therefore, cautioned the public to refrain from standing near windows, avoid being outside, especially close to electric poles or street lights and use tables for protection inside buildings or homes, once an earthquake strikes.
