The police at Mukwe in the Kavango East Region arrested a man for the attempted murder and assault of an 18-year-old boy on Tuesday.
Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator in the region, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu told Nampa on Wednesday the victim, identified as Albertha Malanda, came to Rundu from Angola with the suspect to sell reeds.
The two men sold their reeds, but when it was time to return to Angola, the suspect started insulting the boy and allegedly threatened to kill him.
The suspect allegedly grabbed the victim and tied both his arms, further tying him to a tree to prevent him from moving.
Fearing for his life, the victim allegedly started shouting for help. Community members came to his aid while the suspect was still at the scene.
The community members rescued the victim, tied up the suspect and called the police.
Both the victim and suspect were taken in for questioning.
The suspect, whose age is not known, was expected to make his first appearance in the Mukwe Periodic Court on Wednesday, while investigations into the matter continue.
In an unrelated matter in the Kavango West Region on Tuesday, a man whose age is not known died at Ngone village after a tree branch fell on him, killing him instantly.
It is alleged that the deceased and two men were cutting a tree when the tree branch fell on the deceased.
His remains were transported to the Nankudu State mortuary.
The deceased was identified as Sipirangi Romanus Usuka and his next of kin were informed.
