Reconnaissance Energy Namibia (ReconNamibia), a subsidiary of ReconAfrica, on Monday donated medical equipment to the Ministry of Health and Social Services as part of its support to the ministry’s COVID-19 relief programme.
The equipment valued at N.dollars 6.7 million includes vital signs monitors, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines, ventilators, and oxygen concentrators which will be able to assist in the delivery of public healthcare, beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.
Forming part of the second phase of ReconNamibia’s N.dollars 15 million support to the MoHSS COVID-19 relief, Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula stated that the donation directed to the hospitals in Kavango East and Kavango West will reduce the burden on the ministry in having to transport patients from the regions to the capital for medical assistance that require this equipment.
“With the N.dollars 15 million support by ReconNamibia, the ministry was able to attend to the most urgent needs during the pandemic in the Kavango East and Kavango West regions,” said Shangula.
He further added that the donated items are not COVID-19 relief specifi, ut will also be utilised for other medical needs.
Shangula expressed gratitude for ReconNamibia’s commitment to supporting Namibian healthcare, saying that through these actions, the company has proven that it is a reliable corporate citizen and has the needs of the Namibian people at heart.
Robert Mwanachilenga, General Manager of ReconNamibia, stated that health is considered an important pillar of ReconNamibia’s ESG framework, so it came easily for the company to respond to support the government in the COVID-19 relief programme, especially for the Kavango East and Kavango West regions in which the company operates.
“As a responsible corporate citizen, it was very important for us to join MoHSS in their efforts to combat the pandemic as we have first-hand awareness of the conditions of the hospitals and it is truly humbling that we can make a difference,” said Mwanachilenga.
