The Khomas Basketball Association (KBA) will host the final activities of the year when they award the 2022 top performers of the season on Sunday 16 October at the University of Namibia (Unam) Gymnasium.
The event will also see male and female All-Star exhibition matches taking place before the awards which are scheduled for 18h00.
Speaking to Nampa on Tuesday, KBA President Helena Uugwanga said the aim is to close off the year with a ‘bang’, honour those who gave their all on the court and allow players to showcase basketball skills.
“This will also be an opportunity to see how a Namibia National Basketball team could look like since 60 per cent of the national team usually comes from the Khomas region,” she said.
She added that the All-Star teams will be voted for by the fans via SMS, with 30 male players fighting and competing for twenty-four spots, while the 24 women have already been identified.
A final list of players will be shared and two coaches will draft players onto their teams on 11 and 12 October 2022 for women and men respectively, live on Social Media.
Uugwanga added that the all-star game currently does not have a sponsor, while the referees for the day will be announced by Thursday.
The 2022 season saw Unam Wolves win the title in the men’s competition while their female counterparts, Unam Sparks, were crowned champions in the women’s final.
