The Siguruguru Senior Primary School on the outskirts of Rundu is expected to receive 12 classrooms, an administration block and an ablution facility, all at a cost of N.dollars 20 million.
This was said by the Governor of the Kavango East Region, Bonifatius Wakudumo during the official handover of school furniture to the school by Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila on behalf of the Office of the Prime Minister here on Tuesday.
The school was established under trees in the Tumweneni informal settlement by community members in 2019 for learners who had to travel long distances to and from school on a daily basis.
The community erected corrugated iron structures which were later replaced by tents when Government took ownership of the school in 2020.
“Within the course of this week Recon Africa is also going to drill a borehole that will cater for the school and the community of Tumweneni,” Wakudumo said.
The governor said construction of the school will commence before December.
While handing over the desks and chairs, Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said she is happy to see the positive attitude of the teachers and learners regardless of the harsh conditions.
“I call upon those who have been given the responsibility to implement this project to do so speedily so that our learners can have a conducive environment to learn in,” she said.
The Prime Minister further called on local corporate entities to meet government halfway to ensure that there is investment in social development.
Before visiting the school Kuugongelwa-Amadhila amongst others met with Wakudumo and representatives of the Rundu Town Council and Divundu Village Council, where she expressed hope that the Rundu Abbatoir, which is nearing completion, can contribute to value addition in the meat sector.
She said the manufacturing industry must be strengthened to add value to agricultural produce and grow the economy.
