Namibia scored 11 tries as they overran Burkina Faso 71-5 in the Rugby Africa quarter-finals of a qualifying tournament in Marseille on Friday.
Match day captain Torsten van Jaarsveld scored three tries, while full-back Lorenzo Luis also netted a brace as Namibia set up an exciting semi-final match against Zimbabwe in Aix-en-Provence on 06 July 2022.
The final for these 2023 Rugby World Cup qualifiers is scheduled to take place on 10 July.
Also contributing two tries was JC Greyling, while Wian Conradie, Louis van der Westhuizen, Divan Rossouw and Danko Burger scored one each.
Cliven Loubser converted seven of these tries with PW Steenkamp also chipping in with one conversion as Namibia dominated all aspects of the game.
Burkina Faso, who was playing for the first time at this stage managed to match Namibia pound for pound in the first 17 minutes, with Saiyuba Oedraogo receiving a yellow card.
That proved to be Namibia’s cue to take the game by the scruff of the neck, dominating all the scrums and lineouts, while forcing their opponents to commit many mistakes, especially handling errors.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe scored five tries on their way to a 38-11 victory over Ivory Coast in the other quarterfinal match.
The winners of the qualifying tournament will be in Pool A alongside hosts France and three-time winners New Zealand, Italy and Uruguay for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
