The Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism, Bernadette Jagger on Monday donated sanitary pads and other sanitary products to school learners at the Eddie Bowe Primary School (PS) in Khorixas in the Kunene Region.
The beneficiaries in June 2016 lost their clothes, blankets and other educational materials after their hostel block was destroyed by a mysterious fire.
Jagger, who is the school patron, on Monday visited the hostel block and donated 720 sanitary pads to the girls there, boxes of body lotion, toothpaste and toothbrushes to an estimated value of around N.dollars 10 000.
The deputy minister promised to assist the school in the renovations of the damaged hostel block.
In her official statement, Jagger promised to work closely with the school board and management to make sure that teaching and learning become the core business of the school.
“We must work together and address issues of academic and infrastructural development as well as the social evils such as ill-discipline, teenage pregnancies, alcohol and drug abuse among our learners,” she said.
The patron urged the learners to always behave well, starting from their homes and the schoolyard, adding that she only expects them to study and give their total attention to their school assignments.
Jagger also called on the parents to be highly involved in the upbringing and education of their children.
“I also encourage parents of the Eddie Bowe PS to attend meetings, where school developmental plans and programmes are discussed for the future and school activities of our learners.”
Eddie Bowe Principal, Samora Murorua received the donation on behalf of the school and thanked Jagger for the donation.
The school offers pre-primary to Grade 7 with a total of 789 learners, and
27 teachers, including the principal.
