A local public transport company, Melila Investment on Saturday donated clothes, food items and blankets worth N. dollars 7500 to the Kids Soup Kitchen Namibia situated in Windhoek’s Freedom land location.
Kids-Soup Kitchen Namibian which serves about 121 children is a non-profitable charity organisation that caters for underprivileged people within the Namibian communities since 2004.
Speaking to Nampa on the side line of the event, founder of Melila Investment Rebeka Shiimi said the donation is part of the sixth anniversary celebrations of her company.
“It is also aimed at bringing our drivers together to give back to the community. I love children and brought 10 drivers to serve the neediest ones on this day,” she said.
Apart from Melila Investment, community members also donated clothes.
Founder of Kids-Soup Kitchen Namibia, 34-year-old Samuel Kapepo who received the donations said the children normally come at the centre during weekends to be fed, depending on the availability of funds.
The establishment of the centre, he narrated was influenced by the story of his life when once his family had nothing to put on the table and wandered without any knowledge why the family had no one to help.
“I do not want the current and future generations to go through what I have gone through, but rather leave a footprint,” he confidently said.
A volunteer at the center and grade nine learner at Jan Jonker Secondary School, 17-year-old, Froliana Nghilundwa said she extends her assistance there as she also went through the same situation when she was underage.
She encouraged people to visit orphanages and see for themselves how the children are in dire need of material and financial assistance.
