Award-winning musician Elomotho will host a free concert at Cramer’s in Windhoek on Saturday.
The concert is aimed at uplifting the spirit of the Namibian nation and is his way of giving back to his supporters for the love they have showed him throughout the years the artist, real name Richardo Mosimane, said in a recent interview with Nampa.
He will also be releasing new music during the concert as part of a new project he is working on.
Elomotho, who described his music as “the new sound of the Kalahari” and “melodies of meditation”, said there is more to his music than just entertainment and lively melodies.
“When I started with the first album in 2003 you could hear some traditional elements, but then suddenly you hear R&B elements, suddenly you hear Reggae elements, suddenly you hear Rock elements… For me, that is music,” he said.
Africa’s footprint in music, Elemotho noted, is definitely acknowledged on an international level because there are artists who are working very hard such as the likes of Davido, which is important as they are pushing the way forward for a different generation.
“The word Namibia is out there, people know of it but we still have to work hard at it. We have to be original as artists, as social movers, because anyone can put Namibia out there,” he said.
“If you do your best and you do it uniquely and people won’t say ‘Oh there goes another African musician’, but rather, ‘Oh there goes another Namibian musician’,” he added.
Elemotho is one of Namibia’s most travelled artists and has performed at international festivals in Germany, South Africa and Tanzania, amongst many other African countries.
