The best Kapana cooks from across the country will be facing off this Saturday, 4 August in the Fourth Annual National Nedbank Kapana Cook Off, hosted by Nedbank Namibia in conjunction with the NamChefs, MeatMa, Pick n Pay and Bakpro.
Preliminary rounds have been taking place across the country over the past few months, and the winners will be competing head to head. Finalists in both the Entry Level and Professional Chef categories will be putting their skills to the test and exhibiting their talents to determine who makes the most delicious Kapana in Namibia.
“Our competitors are talented, passionate and driven. We wish all competitors the best of luck! Not only are we looking forward to the delicious Kapana, but we are also looking forward to the comradery and unity of Namibians coming together and doing what they love,” said Gernot De Klerk, Head: Marketing and Communications, Nedbank Namibia.
First, the finalists will have to prepare a mouth-watering salsa – with ingredients handpicked from our local PnP stores – , the perfect topping for a Kapana dish. Judges will taste each salsa and decide who has what it takes to progress to the second round, where the finalists will prepare a Kapana braai with product sponsored by Meatma.
The winner of the Entry Level Category will receive fully fledged Kapana container shop along with a Nedbank bank account with a N$15,000 cash balance, a MeatMa shopping voucher worth N$ 5,000, SME training and mentorship. While the winner in the Professional category will walk away with N$10,000.
“We hope that the winner will take the opportunity to continue investing in themselves and dedicating time to doing what they love. At the end of the day, success comes when you are doing what you are meant to do,” De Klerk emphasised.
Kapana connoisseurs are encouraged to stop by the finals to test the top-notch Kapana hot off the braai and vetkoek supplied by Bakpro. The Cook-off takes place at 9h00am on Saturday at the Shanghai Park Lounge, Shanghai Street opposite Stanfas Location, between Katutura and Khomasdal.
The Kapana National Cook off is one of the vehicles Nedbank utilises to reach out to the small players in the market to aid them in formalising their business operations. No one was left out of the competition, as vendors were able to enter free of cost as well as compete in regional events.
