Standard Bank, in collaboration with the Hochland Roundtable 145, Namport and Wildlife Safaris, recently sponsored the opening of a mobile clinic at the secluded Seringkop settlement some 110 KM outside of Outjo.
Standard Bank and Hochland Round Table 154 have a long standing, strong relationship, which has seen the Bank sponsor the Round Tables’ annual Medic Rush initiative which seeks to provide free basic health care to impoverished communities who do not have access to healthcare for a few days in the year.
In a bid to creating a lasting impact to one of these communities, Hochland Roundtable 145, in collaboration with its sponsors built the mobile clinic from repurposed containers and it is fully furnished to service the needs of the community.
Mobile clinics represent an integral component of the healthcare system that serves vulnerable populations and promotes high-quality care at low cost.
“Although basic healthcare is the right of every single Namibian, it is an undisputed fact that it is a right that cannot be afforded to everyone for a number of reasons. Chief among them is that resources are so thinly spread out they cannot reach certain impoverished and secluded communities,” Standard Bank’s Coastal Regional Manager, Ronald Einbeck, said at the handover of the mobile clinic.
Mobile clinics also improve access for vulnerable populations, bolster prevention and chronic disease management, and reduce costs.
Einbeck explained that good health is one of the most important ingredients for a happy and productive life. And yet, many people do not have access to health care, it is therefore the Banks’ responsibility as good corporate citizens to help where it can. This initiative also complements government efforts in the quest to deliver essential services such as health care to all.
Standard Bank gave a sponsorship to the value of N$75 000. A qualified medical health professional will be stationed at the clinic to treat patients at all times.
He reiterated that every Namibian deserves access to affordable health care. Einbeck said with the opening of the new mobile clinic he hoped that residents of Seringkop will rest easy knowing that should they require medical attention it is available right at their doorstep.
“At Standard Bank we firmly believe that Namibia is our home and we drive her growth; that requires ensuring that Namibia has access to healthcare and stays healthy because a healthy nation is the key to economic prosperity,” he concluded.
