Construction work at House Acacia, the interim home for cancer patients of the Cancer Association of Namibia (WO30) (CAN), is nearing completion.
The anticipated date of welcoming more patients is June 2018, when the new accommodation wing and dining hall will be taken into use.
With an increase in cancer diagnosis experienced in the country, the association felt is necessary to expand patient accommodations at House Acacia. Primary cancer treatment is provided at current only in Windhoek and becomes a heavy financial burden for patients and their families.
CAN purchased the premises in 1985 for N$100 000 and renovated for a further N$90 000.00. During 1995-96 a new wing accommodating 10 additional beds was added.
The current additions welcome 13 additional patients and allows House Acacia to accommodate a total of 34 patients daily, receiving treatment in Windhoek, with complimentary accommodation, 3 nutritional meals a day and transportation to and from the treatment centres.
The Cancer Association of Namibia in particular thank the Namsov Community Trust, First National Bank of Namibia Foundation, Namibia Breweries and the Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project that, together with the unwavering support of the Namibian community, have made this dream a reality.
Namibians are called upon to please support projects and donation drives that support CAN in sustaining this invaluable home of hope for cancer patients in Namibia.
Patients diagnosed with cancer are invited to contact CAN at 061 237740 or help@can.org.na for assistance. The CAN “Pillars of Hope” govern various programmes the association has in place to support patients and their families financially and emotionally too.
