The Neymar Jr’s Five soccer tournament, hosted its third activation at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Windhoek on Wednesday, 16 May 2018, where an additional 40 teams registered.
At the activation, NUST students competed for exciting prizes as they got into the spirit of the game and battled it out in PlayStation 2018 FIFA soccer games. This brings the total number of teams vying for National Champion status to 100. Included in the teams registered at the NUST activation are two more all-female teams; United FC and The Realist. The only other all-female team, Dream Seven entered at the activation held at UNAM.
The Neymar Jr’s Five, a Brazilian soccer star’s signature five-a-side soccer contest, is a Red Bull initiative co-sponsored by Bank Windhoek. Participating teams can look forward to life changing experiences. Once they are crowned the National Champion, they are rewarded with an opportunity to represent Namibia at the World Finals on Saturday, 21 July 2018 at the Instituto Projeto Neymar Jr in Praia Grande, Brazil. Snickers, the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and Fresh FM are also sponsors of the event.
Soccer fanatics between the ages of 16 to 25, regardless of gender, are encouraged to enter the tournament. Oshakati will host the northern activation on Thursday, 24 May 2018. Registration closes on Thursday, 31 May 2018.
Once registration closes, the tournament will host qualifiers in Swakopmund, Oshakati and Windhoek on Saturday, 2, 9 and 16 June 2018 respectively. The National Final will take place on Saturday, 30 June 2018 in Windhoek.
Only one Namibian team is eligible to win the main prize; an all-expenses paid trip to the World Final in Brazil and the potential to play against Neymar Jr’s team.
