Standard Bank’s Operations Shared Services Department (OSS) in Windhoek’s Reger Park area have tossed its hat in the ring, officially launching their personalised Buy-a-Brick fundraising initiative.
The OSS department employees visited the Bank’s Chief Executive, Vetumbuavi Mungunda, recently to unveil their custom made Buy-a-Brick t-shirts which is their fundraising initiative.
Since the launch of the Bank’s flagship initiative in 2015 which is aimed at aiding in alleviating the housing shortage in Namibia, in collaboration with the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN), Blue Bankers have supported the initiative by donating to it.
However, this year the Bank’s employees have taken ownership of the Buy-a-Brick initiative with various departments in the Bank coming up with different campaigns to raise fund on a large scale across the country.
“Since the launch of the Buy-a-Brick initiative we have had several small fundraising campaigns within our department such as selling cakes and donated the proceeds to the initiative. Although other departments within the Bank were running their own fundraising campaigns we thought that the one thing we lacked was uniformity so we came up with the idea of the t-shirts,” Standard Bank’s Head of OSS, Joyce Tsei-Tseimou, said about the choice of their fundraising campaign.
She explained that those who purchase the shirts would be indicating that they stand together in unity for the Buy-a-Brick, demonstrating that they not only talk the talk but also walk the talk.
“The t-shirts also speak to our responsibility as staff members to lead the way in the fundraising efforts for Buy-a-Brick, it starts with us. We are not merely contributing to the initiative because it’s our social responsibility but because we are passionate about helping our communities and ensuring that everyone has a decent place to call home,” she stressed.
The t-shirts are not only reserved for staff members as the public can also purchase them as their contribution to the Buy-a-Brick initiative.
“There is no better way than to wear the shirt and walk the talk,” she reiterated.
Mungunda expressed his delight at the t-shirts, stating that the initiative was bigger than Standard Bank and he was appreciative that the staff members had assumed the mantle of leading fundraising efforts for the initiative.
Acknowledging that most of the Bank’s employees were fortunate enough to have decent housing, he said it was important to remain cognisant of the fact that the initiative was for people who live in shacks and that they need all the support they can get. He also stated that he would play his role in rallying everyone to purchase the t-shirts.
Each t-shirt is selling for N$200, half of that amount will go to production costs while the remainder will be donated to the Buy-a-Brick initiative.
To place orders for the Buy-a-Brick t-shirts, the public is urged to send their orders to Namibia.MarketingCommunications@standardbank.com.na
