The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) donated learners textbooks valued at N.dollars 20 000 to the Center for Strategic Community Innovation (CSCI) in Okakarara, Otjozondjupa Region.
The centre, founded in 2017, is a non-profit organisation started in response to the high failure rate of learners in the Okakarara Constituency.
A statement issued on Monday by the centre’s director, Charles Kuvare said the donation will be channelled towards their afterschool programme, which focusses on learners in grades 1 to 10.
It said the donation is aimed at the learners’ support project to help the learners perform well in schools.
“Namcor has done a good thing by planting their seeds in fertilised soil cultivated by CSCI,” read the statement.
The centre focuses on community enhancing projects and currently has a gardening project that aims towards alleviating poverty among the youth, and it is in the process of training the youth in horticulture.
The statement added that CSCI plan to construct a centre valued at N.dollars 2.5 million that will encompass the learner resources centre, an arts centre and an information and communication technology training centre.
It is also in the process of seeking to establish partnerships with the Namibia University of Science and Technology, National Aeronautics and Space Administration and Stanford University in the United States of America, and Technical University of Berlin in Germany.
“The aim of the partnerships is to have volunteers from these institutes to encourage our young people to pursue careers in science and become innovators,” it explained.
