The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism has warned community members harvesting mopane worms along the boundary of the Etosha National Park to refrain from entering the park.
During the rainy season, hundreds of inhabitants from communities bordering the park harvest mopane worms for trading, especially in urban areas.
A media statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry said entering the park is a violation of the law and compromises the security and protection of wildlife.
“Community members should not cross into the park; it is not permissible by law. The management of the park is sending a stern warning to the public to refrain from illegal activities in the park,” warned the statement.
It further urged the public to render assistance and support to the members of the Namibian Police Force, Namibia Defence Force and Wildlife Protection Services deployed in the Etosha National Park.
