Zebra Kasete, Vice President and Managing Director of Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb announced the appointment of Antonie van Wyk as the Company’s new Director: Operations and Zeka Alberto, Head: Legal, Compliance and Company Secretary, effective 01 August 2021.
Van Wyk takes over from Barcelona Tsauses, who was reassigned to Director; Business Transformation to make changes to processes, people, and systems to better align the company with its business strategy and vision. The new Director: Operations will be responsible for leading, planning, and managing production, materials handling, and processing operational activities to achieve planned targets. He brings over 20 years of consulting, technical and operational experience from working at Navachab Gold Mine, Rössing Uranium, Matamo Engineering Namibia, and Swakop Uranium respectively. Among other qualifications, van Wyk holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Free State and a Bachelor of Commerce (Risk Management) from the University of South Africa.
Alberto’s role is new to DMP Tsumeb’s structure. He will be accountable for the company’s secretarial, compliance, legal, and risk management for all DPM entities in Namibia. He is an admitted attorney and accredited Mediator of the High Court of Namibia and brings 18 years of legal experience specializing in mining law with vast experience in labour, mining, environment, health, and safety laws in Namibia. Alberto started his career at Legal Assitance Center where he held positions of increasing responsibility such as Project Lawyer (Land, Environment, and Development). Alberto is a lawyer by profession. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Namibia and a Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Pretoria, among other qualifications.
Announcing the appointment, Kasete, expressed his excitement and confidence about the executive appointments as the new team members’ expertise will transform the business to greater heights.
About Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb
Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb (Pty) Limited, is located in Tsumeb, Namibia approximately 430 km north of the capital city of Windhoek. The smelter was constructed in 1963 and is one of only a few in the world that can treat complex copper concentrates.
The smelter produces 98.5% pure copper blisters and with its ability to treat complex copper concentrates is transitioning from a captive smelter, receiving mainly DPM concentrates into a toll treatment facility with brown-fields expansion potential. DPM Tsumeb is one of the largest employers in the Oshikoto region with a workforce of approximately 800 employees.
