Namibia senior men’s football team forward, Theophilus Junias, on Tuesday donated a pair of uniforms to Okahandja-based Legends Football Club (FC).
Junias, who started his football career on the team between 2003 and 2008, has since gone on to represent his country and also plays football professionally in Ethiopia.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Junias said that it was important for him to give back to a team that shaped him to become the footballer he is today.
“I just wanted to motivate players from the Five Rand location and particularly those who play in this team because I heard that they are playing in a social league. I want them to be inspirational to young players that are abusing alcohol and drugs, to let them know that there is life in football and it can change your life,” Junias said.
The striker said proper development is key to a player being able to produce his best and is thus adamant that teams like Legends FC must be supported.
Meanwhile, Legends FC’s Player-Coach, Immanuel Ananias, applauded Junias for his sponsorship, saying that the team management was grateful to Junias for giving back to the community from where he emerged.
“I want to thank him for what he has done for this team. Other professional players from Namibia must learn from him so that we can keep our future players out of streets and away from drugs,” he said.
Junias started his football career in 2003 with Legends F.C, before joining Okahandja-based Spoilers FC, where he stayed until 2011. in 2012, he was then sold to Tura Magic, where he played for six years.
In 2019, he then joined Ethiopian Premier League club Welwalo F.C, before moving to his current club Dire Dawa in 2020.
