Sanlam today announced the winners of their Back to School Competition which ended last week. This year, the competition was focused on COVID-19 as a way to encourage schools to ensure adherence to the COVID-19 regulations and keep their learners safe. The competition was open to all schools throughout the country. To participate, schools were required to share pictures or videos clearly showing what they were doing to prevent and or minimise the spread of COVID-19 within their Schools. Up for grabs was a cash prize of N$5000.00 to the top three schools that received the most votes after their submission was posted to the Sanlam Facebook page. The winning schools which all walk away with the cash prize to purchase COVID-19 preventative items are:
- Oshihenge Combined School (Oshana Region) who received 742 likes
- Nelago Primary school (Oshikoto Region) received 682 likes
- Uupindi Primary School (Oshikoto Regions) who received 587 likes
Speaking through a press statement Sanlam’s manager for Marketing and Communication Hilaria Graig said, “Sanlam hosts a Back to School Competition every year but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year we saw it fit for the competition to have a COVID-19 focus”. Graig added that this was because Sanlam understands that schools are a place where many children from different backgrounds come together and could thus be a place of the rapid spread of COVID-19.
The Competition was thus ideal in that it helped schools further educate their learners about the virus and the preventative measure to keep them safe. Graig said she was impressed at the diversity of the schools that participated and the creativity used by the schools adding that some schools really went out of their way to provide excellent quality pictures and videos.” The winning schools were those that received the most likes on their posts and we saw schools literary asking people from their school community to vote for them.
This created positive competitiveness and further promoted the COVID-19 related needs of the schools. The cash prize won by each school will be used to buy COVID-19 preventative materials such as (face masks for learners, hand sanitizer, surface disinfected, distance markers) and other items as required by each individual school
