Hard work pays. This is what seven Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) marketing students learned when they were handsomely rewarded with cash prizes for their academic achievements.
Seven students benefited from cash prizes sponsored by the bank in recognition of their hard work which saw them performing the best in the respective categories. Prizes were awarded for Best first, second, and third-year students, respectively, as well as for Best Honours Cum Laude and Best Marketing Research Project.
Standard Bank’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Magreth Mengo said the bank has a strong focus on education, aiming to produce Education is one of our key CSI focus and we have a number of activities at school and university levels.
“Education is the key to success. We want to encourage our students to work very hard so they can one day occupy leadership positions in industry or better still become entrepreneurs to support the growth of the Namibian economy,” said Mengo.
She said besides the academic awards, Standard Bank also runs a bursary scheme that funds the tertiary education of Namibians in various fields that are deemed relevant not only for the Group but to address the country’s critical skills needs.
She added that Standard Bank is committed to driving Namibia’s growth through various interventions, including the provision of educational opportunities to the most deserving and underprivileged Namibians.
“We are doing this not for our own sake but to promote academic excellence and deliver the next generation of Namibian talent and leaders,” Mengo concluded.

Best third year – Tuisira Kavikairiua – N$2000
Best Student Cum Laude – Linzy Marcolynn Ronel Majiedt – N$3000
Best Honours Cum Laude – Olivia Shilongo – N$2000
Best Honours Cum Laude – Lavinia Ndayelelwa Apaopawa Shalongo – N$2000
