Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) on Tuesday announced sponsorships worth N.dollars 13.2 million for Windhoek Fashion Week and e annual 081Every1 Music Fest.
The sponsorships form part of a total N.dollars 67.8 million in support of local arts and culture and sports, with the biggest chunk going to sports codes like football, rugby, netball, and hockey.
Speaking at a media briefing, MTC’s Chief of Human Capital and Corporate Affairs, Tim Ekandjo announced that MTC has successfully negotiated naming rights to the sponsored events and look forward to working with the organisers for the next three years.
“Windhoek Fashion Week, which will now be known as the ‘MTC Windhoek Fashion Week’, received an investment of N. dollars 1.2 million per annum totalling N.dollars 3.6 million for a period of three years,” he said.
The MTC 081Every1 Music Fest received an amount of N.dollars 3.2 million per annum, also over three years.
Speaking at the event, Windhoek Fashion Week founder and director Luis Munana said the aim of the show has always been to grow the Namibian fashion industry.
“With this sponsorship, we are able to do more for local fashion enthusiasts. We are able to expose local designers on an international level, which is something we’ve always wanted to do,” he said.
Munana said their ultimate goal is to stock shops with local designs that would allow Namibians to support their own.
MTC’s Chief Commercial Officer Melvin Angula said last year’s 081Every1 Music Fest attracted over 17 000 people indicating that Namibians love music, amongst others because it unites people.
“Since the 2015 Trey Songz Concert we had Namibians begging for more and more of the best of Namibia, Africa, and the world, so for the next three years we will give you more through the 081Every1 Music Fest which will see the best Namibian artists sharing the stage with continental and international artists,” he said.
The sponsorships will be effective from 01 October 2020 until 01 October 2023.
