Some households of marginalised communities in the Kunene Region on Tuesday received a donation of food items valued at N.dollars 117 000 from the Central North Regional Electricity Distributor (Cenored).
Cenored Executive Manager for Engineering Services, Silvester Wayiti handed over the consignment to Kunene Region Governor, Marius Sheya at Outjo on Tuesday afternoon.
Wayiti in an interview with Nampa said the donation is aimed at assisting those marginalised community members who need food during this time of the COVID-19 outbreak.
He said the donation comprised of 1 100 bags of maize meal, 100 bottles of cooking oil and 100 tins of fish.
“The donation is part of our corporate social responsibility to the people of Kunene during this difficult time,” said Wayiti.
Receiving the donation, Sheya said the beneficiaries have been identified already in the constituencies of Outjo, Kamanjab and Khorixas.
Sheya said the food distribution started on Tuesday afternoon at the Queen Sofia resettlement farm outside Outjo, while other community members in Kamanjab and Khorixas constituencies would receive their parcels on Thursday and Friday.
He promised to distribute the food fairly and make sure the beneficiaries sign on a distribution form to indicate that they received their parcels, adding that this would assist his office to compile a detailed report to be shared with Cenored.
