Namibia Plastics receives US FDA certification Namibia Plastics and Packaging Distributors has been awarded the United States (US) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) certification.
The plastic manufacturer was recognised as the first Namibian company to achieve US FDA certification as a manufacturer of materials used in the manufacturing of single-service containers and closures for milk and milk products located outside the USA.
In a media statement availed to Nampa on Wednesday, Namibia Plastics Quality Assurance and Compliance Manager, José-Luis Pretorius said the FDA certification has placed the country and Namibia Plastics and Packaging Distributors among a list of only 38 certified countries.
The company is also the only flexible film manufacturer in Africa and the seventh company on the continent overall to be awarded such certification, he added.
“This certification further confirms that NP has exceeded quality and product safety standards as well as Good Manufacturing Practice requirements by adhering to the strictest hygiene and product safety for food contact material requirements,” Pretorius noted.
Namibia Plastics Chief Executive Officer, Johan Struwig said the company was evaluated by a listed hygiene consulting firm that recommended favorable consideration to the FDA board.
“We continually strive for improvement in every aspect of our processes and this certification just goes to show that we as a company can operate on the same level of excellence as not only European companies but also American companies,” Struwig said, expressing gratitude to the quality assurance and production teams.
In June 2019, Namibia Plastics was accredited with a global British Retail Consortium certificate for its packaging standards in the high hygiene audit category.
Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Chairperson, Sven Thieme similarly applauded Namibia Plastics for the FDA certification, adding that the standard held by the company is “commendably exemplary”.
“We see a proudly Namibian establishment grow in leaps and bounds, and developing into a manufacturer that is comparable to global leaders. I am thus not surprised at this establishment’s recognition as a leader in quality,” he said.
