On Wednesday the Bankers Association of Namibia (BAN) had its annual stationery drive handover to seven underprivileged schools across the country.
Stationery to the value of N$68 000 was collected at several drop-off points at all participating banks, and during a “Shake a tin” event at various intersections in Windhoek. Waltons Stationers came on board to provide a total discount on all stationery to the amount of N$24 009.
“Where children study in schools where there is a lack of stationery, there cannot be equity, prosperity, and progress. The Bankers Association has prioritized schools and is today handing over N$68 000 worth of stationery to schools across Namibia. It is our united vision that the children who will benefit from this donation will go on to preserve our rich Namibian heritage and will be empowered to take their rightful place in the world as leaders and trendsetters” said Ester Kali, Vice-Chair of the Bankers Association of Namibia.
Ayesha Wentworth, Acting Director Programmes & Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education Arts and Culture, said: “The Ministry faces many challenges and in order for the Ministry to realize its national targets, Public Private Partnership (PPP) is a much-needed collaboration to improve outcomes in the education system.
This initiative has given us hope to believe that the Bankers Association of Namibia and the Namibian community at large values education in our country as a powerful tool in reducing poverty and enhancing economic growth. Thus, your noble effort in providing much-needed support to the needy communities is highly appreciated.”
Stationery was handed over to representatives of Ndinoshisho Pre-Primary School, Okahandja Primary School, Nautilus Primary School, Amathila Kindergarten, Happy Land Pre-Primary School, Dr. Fischer Primary School, and Khotahoas Primary School.
