Bank Windhoek, in collaboration with the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC), will host the 22nd World Music Day on Saturday, 24 June 2017, in partnership with Fresh FM radio and DB Audio.
World Music Day brings together audiences from diverse backgrounds, age, race and cultural upbringing. The family-friendly festival is also a perfect family outing. In Windhoek a winter market will also take place during the day at Palm Tree Park. There will be food stalls, crafts, drinks and exciting activities for everyone at all the venues.
Some of the participating musicians this year include The Fate of Miss H, Savannah Afros, Tschuku Tschuku, Ann Singer, Monique English, Formula Band, Meta and Shiva Child, Nova, Omidi d’Afrique and Jeff A.D. Many more upcoming musicians will also showcase their talent at the event.
The worldwide celebrated event, also known as Fête de la Musique, having originated from France, will simultaneously take place in four towns in Namibia, namely; Windhoek, Rundu, Oshakati and Lüderitz. Entrance is free of charge at all the venues. In Windhoek the festivities will be at Palm Tree Park from 10:00 to 17:00 and will therefarter move to the FNCC from 20:00’ till late.
In Rundu the event will take place at OK Food Parking, next to Pupkewitz, from 10:00 to 20:00. Oshakati Super Sport will stage the concert close to the main road towards Okahao from 10:00 to 17:00. In Lüderitz festivities will be held at Lüderitz Stadium from 12:00 to 17:00.
The festival brings together amateur and professional musicians from all walks of life who specialise in genres ranging from jazz, soul, funk, rock, electro, reggae and many other popular genres. The World Music Day is celebrated in over 104 countries and an estimated 514 cities around the world. It celebrates the influence of music by bringing music lovers together.

World Music Day is an annual event which takes place across the world usually on 21 June during the European summer solstice, when the sun reaches its highest or lowest point in the sky at noon, marked by longest and shortest days.
