Standard Bank Namibia launched its Buy-a-Brick A Cappella Music Fest in the capital on Tuesday.
The project is aimed at supporting the Buy-a-Brick initiative by raising funds to address the housing needs of low-income communities living in informal settlements.
Speaking during the event on Tuesday, Standard Bank Namibia Marketing Manager, Sindano Nekundi said there are more than half a million Namibians who live in shacks or other informal structures and are thus in need of proper housing.
“We know that the government alone cannot address the housing needs and that is where we as citizens must play a complementary role,” he said.
He said this music festival and other initiatives around the Buy-a-Brick project, affords Namibians a chance to address one of the biggest social challenges in the country.
“The funds generated through the ticket sales will be distributed to the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN) who are directly responsible for assisting communities in building houses they can call home,” he added.
SDFN is a network of savings groups that was established in 1998 to address the need for housing and currently has a membership of about 20 111.
The festival is slated for 31 August 2019, at the Windhoek High School Vegkop Stadium.
Tickets are between N.dollars 150 to 350 for general access and N.dollars 750 for VIP.
