Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) in partnership with 22 private and public sector entities have committed to providing internship opportunities to 161 students for the 2019/20 financial year.
This was revealed by MTC Chairperson, Elvis Nashilongo, at the launch of the MTC Namibia National Internship Programme in the capital on Monday.
Nashilongo said the three-month internship programme would allow placement for the students at various private and public institutions in a multitude of disciplines including, but not limited to, media, engineering, legal practices, human resources, marketing and economics.
“This initiative is a deliberate response to the dire need for interns at various institutions of higher learning to find placements to attain the minimum job experience required to graduate,” he said.
The institutions that will benefit from the programme are the Namibia University of Science and Technology, University of Namibia, International University of Management, Namibian Institution of Mining and Technology (NIMT) and all vocational training centres.
MTC will provide a N.dollars 3 000 stipend over the entire internship period and where a student requires six months of experience, an amount of N.dollars 1 500 will be paid.
