The first-ever Safety and Security Expo kicked off in the capital on Thursday.
The expo features 300 exhibitors displaying residential safety products and services, occupational health and safety operators and cybersecurity and technology providers.
During the opening ceremony, Managing Director Helena Mootseng said the expo is a platform that was created to stimulate discussion around safety.
“This expo will serve as a knowledge-sharing platform to enhance safety measures in society and equip the public on how to protect themselves against all types of crimes,” she said.
Speaking at the same occasion, Old Mutual’s Executive for Marketing, Transformation and Customer Strategy, Ndangi Katoma said Old Mutual decided to support the event because it aligns with their responsible business strategy and presents a unique platform to connect and enhance collaboration with key safety and security stakeholders.
“We believe in the shared value of supporting the Safety and Security Expo which complements other initiatives we support in making our neighbourhoods safe and secure such as supporting Neighbourhood Watch against Crime and crime prevention groups. The partnership we are building with community groups aids in combating crime in our communities and contributes to the safety and security of our neighbourhoods,” he said.
Mobile Telecommunications Limited’s (MTC) Corporate Affairs and Communications Manager, John Ekongo said MTC has a big responsibility to protect its customers, especially against threats in the mobile space, and would like to narrow their contribution to the matter of mobile security and in particular, SIM card security.
Other partners in the hosting of the expo are the Ministry of Safety and Security, the Namibian Police Force and the City of Windhoek.
It is taking place at the Windhoek Showgrounds and is open to the public until Saturday.
