Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) on Tuesday handed over bursaries to five students from the Namibia University of Science and Technology; the International University of Management (IUM), the University of Botswana and the University of Namibia.
The beneficiaries are pursuing studies in the fields of information and communication technology, including in network security and computer forensics and system administration.
Speaking at the handover, MTC’s Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affairs Officer Tim Ekandjo said the bursary scheme forms part of the company’s corporate social investment, which is aimed at meaningfully contributing to education.
“We are proud to uphold the tradition of ploughing back and helping them as they pursue their studies,” he said.
Ekandjo further explained that when the students complete their studies, MTC will make provision for experimental learning and work guidance for them.
Upon satisfactory performance and assessment, they will be offered employment at MTC when the opportunity arises.
Also speaking during the handover was MTC’s Organisational Development Manager, Patricia Jacobs who explained that the bursary scheme usually looks at students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“We have bright and outstanding students who are struggling to finish their studies due to a lack of funds and with the available funds at our disposal, those are the students that we look at,” Jacobs said.
The programme has been in existence since 2002 and has to date invested over N. dollars 5 million in education.
