Namibia has a long history of producing champions, whether it be on the track, MTB, road cycling, shooting and boxing. Fact of the matter is that we are represented on a global stage by phenomenal athletes who carry our National Flag proudly.
The road to greatness is paved with many hours of dedication, training and resolve, perseverance and most importantly, a coach or mentor who manages and guides the progress made, always pushing for better and encouraging an athlete to never give up.
But to get to a point where never giving up is an option, you need facilities that offer these sports at a young age to not only cultivate but also lead our future champions in the right direction.
Hollard has and will always be at the forefront of encouraging early development, understanding that in a country such as Namibia where there are not that many facilities available for the youth to actively participate and grow in many of these events, investment into existing facilities is crucial.
Dolphins Swimming club based in Windhoek is a prime example of this, not only do they teach our children how to swim, they also produce champions that have participated in major galas in South Africa.
They recently hosted a Gala in Windhoek that was attended by roughly 180 young swimmers ranging in ages from 3 – 15. This event is there for the children to experience what it feels like to be out of the training pool and venture into deeper waters.
Although considered to be a fun Gala, we at Hollard see the importance of teaching our youth about the dangers of deeper waters, making events such as these so much more than just a casual splash in the “grown up pool”.
Hollard assists Dolphins Swimming Club, by contributing financially towards making these Gala’s possible for the children. Hollard also sponsors swimming gear such as swimming caps, towels, water bottles and cooler boxes that are distributed to participants on the day.
We understand that sports development at an early age is vital to our children for their future, as it not only enables them to grow stronger both physically and mentally, but also gives them the opportunity to explore a different avenue in line with career choices.
Let’s help our future champions by supporting any initiative that encourages our children to grow strong and proud, so that they too can lift our Flag proudly on whatever podium they might find themselves in the future.
