The Kalahari Homeless Shelter Initiative started in August 2016 to address and support the inhabitants in the Kalahari Constituency. The initiative spearheaded by Kalahari Councillor Cde Kariseb and Honourable Kornelia Shilunga as the patron, has set a target to construct dwelling units at no cost for the beneficiaries in Blouberg, Vergenoeg, Drimiopsis and Tsjaka in the Kalahari Constituency Omaheke Region, for over 8500 residents, who are currently residing in shacks and plastic houses.
The inhabitants of Kalahari Constituency in Omaheke Region like any other parts in this Country are faced with housing problems. A large number of our people are still living in unbearable situations that of shacks and plastic houses. These kinds of houses are exposed to the sun, winter, rain, and other dangerous creatures such as snakes and scorpions.
The constituency experienced already loss of lives through burning of shacks and plastic shelters, in different communities within the constituency and the region.
Honorable F.T Ueitele, Governor of Omaheke Region, launched this Charity orientated project as an annual activity in August 2016.
Thus far the programme has constructed 8 dwelling units in Blouberg and managed to raise N$ 600 000.00 to-date.
