The University of Namibia informs all stakeholders that the UNAM Vice Chancellor, Professor Kenneth Matengu has appointed Prof. Frank Kavishe to act as Pro-Vice Chancellor (PVC) for Research, Innovation and Development (RID). His appointment is effective from 28 September 2018, and will run until a substantive candidate is found.
Prof. Kavishe is currently the designated Assistant Pro-Vice Chancellor (APVC) for the Jose Eduardo dos Santos Campus. In his absence, Dr Petrina Johannes, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and IT, will act in his place.
The position of Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development became vacant after Prof Kenneth Matengu, the former PVC: RID, ascended to Vice Chancellorship in August this year.
“Given the vastness of the university and its research undertakings, it is imperative that the administration of all research & innovation units across campuses remain well coordinated”, remarked Prof. Matengu during the appointment. Finally saying “To that end, I have resolved to appoint Prof Frank Kavishe to act”
Prof Kavishe is a Chartered Engineer who has extensively worked in Eastern and Southern Africa. He is the Founding Dean of the UNAM Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology and has served this and many other roles within the University with distinction. Some notable examples are immense contribution to resource mobilization, academic seniority and extensive experience with industry collaboration. He has driven international engagement and continues to play an important role in the current critical period of laboratory accreditation and certification which we are undergoing.
