The annual Windhoek Oktoberfest was launched on Wednesday.
This year’s Oktoberfest, which takes place on 26 and 27 October at the SKW sports field, is expected to be bigger and better as the festival celebrates its 60th anniversary.
The Windhoek Oktoberfest celebrates diversity by showcasing its German roots, but with Namibian elements.
Speaking at the launch, the chairperson of the Windhoek Oktoberfest committee, Norbert Wurm said the diversity in participants and guests, both local and from across the world, has made the event more colourful over the years.
“It has blossomed into a beautiful Namibia cultural celebration, irrespective of its origins,” said Wurm.
This year’s festival will introduce a cashless payment system for transactions.
One lucky Windhoek Oktoberfest supporter also stands the chance to walk away with a year’s supply of beer from Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) by simply downloading the Shazam app and listening to Radio Kosmos, Radiowave 96.7FM and Hitradio Namibia.
A statement issued by the organisers said Oktoberfest Shazamable watermarked radio advertisements will be broadcast.
“You will be prompted with the competition details and entertainment directly on your mobile phone,” it said.
Other prices for the competition will include tickets for the Oktoberfest or a prize to be redeemed at the event.
Tickets are available at any Pick n Pay outlet or online via Webtickets.
