The Simply You Magazine Lifestyle and Fashion Awards (SYMLFA) inspires and motive Namibian creative industry practitioners to aspire to greater heights in the entertainment profession.
Simply You Magazine (SYM) Editor Ndapewoshali Shapwanale said in an interview with Nampa on Tuesday that although the awards have no monetary value attached, those who are selected for the awards are very appreciative of it as it recognises their hard work and efforts to improve the creative industry in the country.
“We have awards that recognises musician, actors and actresses but not fashion designers, photographers, Djees or make-up artists amongst other supporting acts that play a vital role in making the entertainment industry what it is,” she stressed.
Unlike before nominees do not enter for the different categories but are selected by a panel of judges thus making the awards interesting as people put in extra efforts to improve their skills so as to ensure nomination.
“It is not easy for the judges to select nominees as we have so much talent in the country and that is why we leave it to the public to vote who they think deserves to win,” noted Shapwanale.
The SYMLFA took place here last Saturday at the National Theatre of Namibia.
The awards with a touch of vintage entertainment kicked off with an act straight from the theatre as Michael Pulse delivered a performance of three of his hits played out in a short play set in a bar and him as a bartender.
Sunny Boy and Killa B brought the house down as everyone could not stay in their seats on songs like ‘Balance’, ‘Eliko’ and ‘Summertime’.
Paying tribute to those who helped build the foundation of the Namibian sound, TopCheri did renditions of Lady May’s ‘Chokola’. She also had the crowd swinging their arms up and down as she called on the rest of Blvcboxx Entertainment for the new-age hit, ‘Hungover’.
Musician, actress, songwriter and philanthropist Lize Ehlers walked away with the Diamond award for her work in Windhoek and surrounding areas.
