Vice President Nangolo Mbumba and family donated N.dollars 50 000 to two charity organisations, as part of his 77th birthday celebration here on Wednesday.
The Mbumba family donated N.dollars 10 000 to the National Federation of the Visually Impaired (NFVI), a federation of which he is a Patron and another N.dollar 40 000 to Bella Madison, a sexton at the Inner City Lutheran Church in the capital, who also runs the Ohole Neineekelo elderly group.
Ohole Neineekelo means love and tust.
Mbumba said that the money to the federation is to assist them with the day-to-day needs.
The NFVI is an umbrella body organisation of the regional associations and leagues for the visually impaired in Namibia.
Director of the NFVI Moses Nghipandulwa, who is partially visually impaired, could not contain his happiness for the funds they received from their patron.
“The funds are really meaningful and they will meet the implementation of the federation’s activities in terms of preventing blindness and buying braille material for the beneficiaries,” he stressed.
The federation currently only depend on donations to operate, however at times, they are responsible for printing braille books for various organisations upon request, for an income.
Madison (72), who has been running her non-profit organisation for the elderly for the past 20 years expressed great gratitude to the Mbumba family, noting in an interview with Nampa on the side-lines that taking care of the elderly, is her last mission before she departs earth.
“I have been involved in a number of community projects, I am now 72 years old, and I believe I have done sufficient during my time,” she said.
“We recognise your contribution to the freedom, peace and stability in the country as well as your dedication and selfless work to the Inner City Lutheran church every Sunday and that did not go unnoticed,” Mbumba expressed to Madison.
The VP added that although the donation is coming directly from the Mbumba family, it is meant to represent the collective representation of the many members of the Inner City congregation.
Mbumba was born on 15 August 1941, just 12 days after President Hage Geingob celebrated his birthday.
