The Pebble Foundation on Wednesday donated sanitary pads to nearly 300 girls at the Elias Neromba Secondary School in the Kavango East Region.
Two-hundred of the girls received sanitary pads, while 94, who are mostly orphans and vulnerable children, received sanitary pads and soap.
The non-profit organisation was founded this year and hopes to uplift previously disadvantaged communities. Its Pebble Campaign specifically works to provide sanitary pads to school-going girls from disadvantaged communities.
Bridget Dundee, co-founder of the foundation, during the handover said sanitary pads are an important thing for girls because menstruation is not a choice.
“We do not want our girls to stay home because of a lack of sanitary pads.
We want them to come to school every day, to learn and become the best person they can be without any worries about sanitary pads,” said Dundee.
She further encouraged the learners, saying hard work and believing in their dreams will help them to be successful.
School principal Evalistus Simanu applauded the foundation for the gesture, while one of the beneficiaries, Phidelia Hendrick said she was very happy to have benefited.
Hendrick, a Grade 10 learner, said some of them are from poor backgrounds and are unable to afford sanitary pads. She said this will help the girls to stay in school.
