MEN’s HEALTH CLINICS by CAN MEDICAL CENTRE, 90 John Meinert Street in Windhoek West
The Cancer Association of Namibia (WO30) offer affordable quality screening services as follow:
• Men’s health clinics on Tuesday’s for N$70 per patient and includes a “men’s health education talk”, cholesterol screening and PSA Rapid Test screening the prostate functioning levels to help prevent or detect prostate cancer.
(Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a substance made by cells in the prostate gland (both normal cells and cancer cells). PSA is mostly found in semen, but a small amount is also found in the blood. Most men without prostate cancer have PSA levels under 4 nanograms per millilitre (ng/mL) of blood. PSA-raising factors, besides cancer, that can raise PSA levels include an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH) and an inflamed or infected prostate (prostatitis). Also, PSA levels normally increase with age. The PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) Rapid Test is an initial semi-quantitative screening test to detect PSA system levels in whole blood equal to, or greater than, 4 ng/ml and within ten minutes. System PSA levels of 4 ng/ml or greater are generally accepted to be an indication that further evaluation and consultation with a healthcare professional is warranted. PSA concentration of 10ng/ml or greater is considered a warning point for immediate clinical evaluation.)
