Capricorn Group once again showed its commitment to being a connector of positive change within our community when it sponsored six leadership workshops for 120 Learner Representative Committee (LRC) members from Hage Geingob High School, A. Shipena Secondary School, Immanuel Shifidi Secondary School, Dawid Bezuidenhout High School, Ella Du Plessis High School and Hochland High School in Windhoek, Namibia.
The initiative, which commenced during February 2018, was implemented in the aforementioned schools over a six-month period, by Capacity Trust, a Human Resources and Industrial Psychology Consultancy. The leadership workshop aimed to create a platform for LRC’s in the different schools to better understand themselves and to acquaint themselves with one another, manage conflict, improve communication, manage change and build leadership skills.
A workshop of this nature generally takes up to 5-hours per school. Using the Jung Type Indicator (psychometrically robust personality questionnaire), the personality type of each participant is assessed with structured feedback provided around their individual personality type and how it influences their ability to lead, communicate and solve problems individually and as a team. Activities are then carried out to build on identified strengths and to work on identified weaknesses. The results are phenomenal, producing enhanced self-awareness, self-management and interpersonal-management.
Although numerous learners from private schools have access to psychometric tests and workshops of this nature, government schools are not afforded such opportunities due to the high costs involved. Hence, Capricorn Group’s partnership with Capacity trust to invest in the lives of these Namibian learners, and in doing so, positively ¬impact their futures.
“At Capricorn Group, we long realized the importance of sensing and responding to our environment. Our purpose of being Connectors of Positive Change mobilises us make such initiatives possible” Thinus Prinsloo, managing director of Capricorn Group
All the schools were incredibly grateful for the time invested in discovering and building their qualities.
“…I got to know myself better, but most importantly, I got to know my team; our similarities, our differences and how we can work together.” Tahila Mongoya, LRC at Hochland High School
As a proud sponsor of Capacity Trust’s young leaders’ development programme, Capricorn Group is committed to the development of tomorrow’s leaders and wishes all 120 learners that took part in this initiative, a bright future ahead.
