Suiderlig and PK de Villiers Secondary Schools victorious in FNB Classic Clashes
Over the past weekend, Suiderlig Secondary School beat JA Nel with 2:1 on the soccer field, while visitors PK de Villiers walked away victoriously with 40:31 points against Mariental High School on the rugby field.
On Friday last week, Suiderlig played against their archrivals JA Nel and won the Southern FNB Classic Clashes match in the Hardap region in front of a bumper crowd. The hosts, JA Nel took an early lead when Zidane Muharukwa scored a brilliant goal. Suidelig Secondary School came back well prepared in the second half with Franklin Witbooi and Ernst Kooitie scoring two goals to bring about the win for their team. Ernst Kooitie was named FNB Man of the Match for scoring the winning goal, while Lombolrni Romeloa of JA Nel was crowned Aquasplash Hero.
Once again, the hosts, Mariental High School scored first and led by 7:0 before visitors’ PK de Villiers replied with determination and scored try after try to win the game in the end. FNB Classic Clash Man of the Match was Neville Afrikaner from Mariental High School and from the same school Catherine Saal was named Aquasplash Hero. Salmon Medusalem of Mariental High School said: “My team performed quite well especially in the second half, at the start we weren’t in the game but after the second half we showed that we could have won the game. Our tempo, however, started a bit late but I am happy with my team.”
The clash between Walvis Bay Private High School (WBPHS) and High School Technical (HTS) has been cancelled for this year. More games to come this week include a soccer game between De Duine and Namib High School on 13 July in Walvis Bay as well as a netball game between Wennie du Plessis and Gobabis Gymnasium on 18 July in Gobabis.
