The Ministry of Poverty eradication and Social Welfare(MPESW) received a donation of game meat from Herbothsblick community to 17 charity homes at Family of Hope Services in the Havana settlement on Friday.
Herbothsblick Community is situated halfway between Windhoek and Hosea Kutako International Airport responsible for game farming, selling houses and residential plots.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Michau Basson a board member of the Herbothsblick community said that it is important to those who have to give to the less fortunate.
“Let us try to build this nation, because I believe we are on the right direction as we start here at grassroots level,” Basson.
According to him, ten Oryx were slaughtered to provide game meat to the charity homes and this donation will continue every year.
On her part, the deputy minister of environment and tourism Bernadette Maria Jagger said the ministry is happy to see farmers and volunteers who are willing to donate game meat to the needy.
The donation of game meat is provided for in the Nature Conservation Ordinance and Herbothsblick community did this by following the ordinance.
She also commended on the relationship between the Herbothsblick community and the MPESW.
“This is what we call sustainable and wise use of our natural resources and we should conserve our wildlife for the benefit of our present and future generations,’’ said Jagger.
She further urged people to refrain from poaching wild animals.
“We should aim for sustainable utilization,” added the deputy minister.
Receiving the donation, Dr. Zephania Kameeta who is the minister of poverty eradication and social welfare thanked Herbothsblick community for the donation.
He emphasised on the importance sharing in the community and urged people to share even the little they have.
“I have learned one thing in life is that when you share you would not become poor,” said Kameeta.
