The Youth League of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia (ELCRN) Rogate Choir on Sunday donated food items and blankets to the Rehoboth Ebenhaeser Parish Kindergarten worth N. dollars 5 000.
Established in May this year, the league visited the Parish for a music show and donated the items as part of their social responsibility project.
Circuit Coordinator of the National Rogate Executive for Central region, Boetikie !Haoseb explained the Youth League was established to assist with community upliftment projects in church as well as for the general public.
“The National Executive Committee gave us the go ahead to establish a youth league within the choir to keep them engaged in community as well as church activities and teach them about the responsibilities of a Christian in and out of church,” he said.
He added that the donation was necessitated to the fact that some children attending the kindergarten are coming from disadvantaged communities and probably has nothing to eat.
“We as the youth just wanted to say thank you to our God and Creator for the gift of life and wanted to do it through giving this small donation. I believe that with this we will contribute towards the well-being of children,” he said.
Vice Chairperson of the Parish, Abisai Skrywer who expressed gratitude to the youth league said: “We are touched by this kind donation by the children who are living out the purpose of serving God through their good deeds. I believe and hope that these donations will open doors for such similar acts.”
The Kindergarten has 75 children with three teachers and was established in 1983.
Apart from the youth league, the Rogate Choir also has a music department called the Rogate Music Department aimed at nurturing its own artists.
It further plans to establish a Women and Men Christian League to address Christianity among men and women and social evils within the community.
The Rogate choir has branches in all six circuits of the ELCRN 54 congregations.
