The Capricorn Group hosted a three-part financial journalism workshop for journalists from various media houses to advance their skills in business and economic reporting.
The workshops were conducted in February, March and June this year.
The training was aimed at enhancing journalists’ financial reporting skills not only to represent the financial sector accurately, but to help them interpret the actions of listed companies and help the local communities understand.
Presenters from Capricorn Group, Deloitte and Cirrus Capital explained various concepts covered in the fundamentals of accounting, analysing and interpreting financial reports and reviewing critical economic data.
Chief Financial Officer of the Capricorn Group, Jaco Esterhuyse on Wednesday during the final session of the three-part workshops said the group believed that active engagement of stakeholders and management relationships was vital to the continued growth and success of the economy.
The workshop was attended by business, economics and finance journalists from the Namibia Press Agency (Nampa), Namibia Trade Directory, the Namibian, Namibian Sun, New Era, The Villager and the Republikein newspapers.
Journalists from Radiowave and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation also attended the workshop.
The training will be held on an annual basis.
