Two upcoming entrepreneurs held a Winter Charity Drive event on Saturday were Orphans and Vulnerable Children(OVC) were treated to food and goodies for winter.
The event, held at a local guest house here was one of its kind where the business community in Rundu donated different items such as blankets, stationary, clothes and toys to the needy.
One of the organisers, Jerry Kauyu of Eight Point Five Investment told Nampa during the event that they saw a need of coming up with such an event to collect donations from the business community and the public in order to help out the needy.
Kauyu said looking from the success of the event, they have resolved to host such an event not only during winter but at the end of the year before Christmas as a Christmas lunch where they will prepare meals for orphans and give out toys and clothes.
“I have a roof over my head, food and clothes but there are certain things that I have in my house which I don’t need anymore. So my friend and I decided why not come with a platform where people can donate stuff they don’t need anymore and give to the needy,” said Kauyu.
He invited every resident of Rundu to donate items like wearable clothes, blankets and toys they don’t use that can be given to OVCs.
Businesses such as Oceano Atlantico, Bank Windhoek and others donated food and stationary while some of the residents came with clothes, blankets and old toys.
Josephine Mukuve, a resident of Kehemu location who was part of the beneficiaries together with her children could not contain her joy and applauded the organisers for coming up with such an idea and asked them to continue with their good deed.
Mukuve was however disappointed by the fact that the leaders in town could not come and brace the event and support the youth that came up with such a brilliant idea.
Wilson Kandji, the co-organiser and owner of Omnicon Investment CC thanked all the business people that came to support the event and those that contributed, saying that looking at the turn-out, they hope to make the event big and better next time.
