On Wednesday night FNB hosted Stoep Stories, a private function at the Tourism Expo where tourism giants shared their experience of how small things matter.
The fun atmosphere was facilitated by seasoned storyteller, Chris Theron and featured Dr. Sem Shikongo, stalwart to the Tourism industry; Willie Olivier, Journalist and Lecturer at NMH and life-long traveler; Boesman Davids, Namibia’s own Sossus on Foot expert; and guest speaker Dr. Japie van Zyl, tour guide to the universe, and travel guide beyond known frontiers
“One of the key takeaways from the evening was that small things really matter in the tourism industry. All the speakers shared interesting experiences about the beauty and vastness of Namibia. We sometimes forget that it’s the sheer nothingness of our wide open spaces, and beautiful sunsets that make our country so special. The night was truly a reflection of how seemingly simple things to us, can be an exciting encounter for a tourist.”
Tourism is one of the major contributors to the GDP of Namibia and as such needs to be upheld, enhanced and built upon. Namibia is an exceptionally beautiful country and attracts visitors from all over the world. “Not only is the revenue received by our country important to the economy of the country, but we need to share our beautiful fauna and flora with the world – both for awareness and the preservation of these natural resources.”
