Blue Bankers join in on National Clean-Up campaign
The Standard Bank family is gearing itself up to join the nationwide cleaning campaign scheduled for next week, with a donation of N$34 000 towards the campaign as a testament of their commitment.
President Hage Geingob earlier this year called for a National Clean-Up Campaign, which was scheduled for 1 May, however it was postponed to 25 May. Namibians from all corners are expected to participate by cleaning up the different communities they find themselves in.
“The world we live in today is deteriorating by the day; we have issues such as global warming, ozone depletion and pollution which is caused by poor waste management. This why we need to take steps quickly to reverse this so we can save our planet for future generations, the National Clean-Up Campaign is one of the ways we can do that,” Standard Bank’s PR and Communication’s Manager, Surihe Gaomas-Guchu, said of the event this week.
Standard Bank gave a sponsorship of N$34 000 towards the national cleaning up campaigns in Windhoek’s residential area of Katutura and Khorixas in the Kunene Region.
Windhoek lost its status as the cleanest city in Africa last year, with poor waste management being at the forefront of why it had lost its status.
“Namibia is our home, we drive her growth, however, we are not only limited to growing her economically or financially, we have also invested in her social growth, as we have proven through our various Corporate Social Investment (CSI) projects. As such, we are pleased to be able to participate in the national cleaning campaign as it aims to enhancing a clean and hygienic Namibia,” she explained.
Gaomas-Guchu also added that it is each and every Namibian’s responsibility to ensure that their country is clean, the Bank is therefore proud to be able to participate in this noble initiative especially because it will aid in restoring Namibia’s status as one of the cleanest countries in Africa.
“Keeping your environment clean goes a long way in keeping you and your family healthy. Rubbish that is not attended to, rubbish lying on the road or in uncovered bins serve as perfect breeding grounds for pathogens and germs which escalates the spreading of communicable diseases. That should be enough motivation to start making a few changes for cleaner cities, towns and villages,” she concluded.
