On the 25th and 26th of May the Namibian Karate Team will be participating in the AUSC Region 5 Karate Championships in Gaborone, Botswana.
This year’s team boasts a total of 75 athletes from numerous regions throughout the country, and will be the largest karate team to ever represent Namibia at an International event. Accompanying the team will be 11 officials; as well as the National Coach, DeWet Moolman and his assistant coach Llewellyn Manale.
Team Namibia is looking to improve on last year’s impressive 50 medals taken at the championships in Mozambique. The past 3 months have seen the athletes go through rigorous training in preparation for the upcoming tournament and the coaches have insured that the team is looking better than ever!
Looking to lead the team to victory this year are team captains Jürgen van Wyk and Suzelle Pronk. Also in the team are 2017 Senior Male Grand Champion Stefan van der Merwe, multi-time Region 5 medallist Katelyn Martin and Namibia’s very own Karate Superstar Fred Mwiya Jnr; who is looking to continue his undefeated streak!
With such a talented line up of athletes in this year’s team one thing is for sure; Namibia is determined to put on one of the greatest performances in Namibian karate history!
