Standard Bank employees have proved to be one of the biggest proponents of the Bank’s Buy a Brick initiative, recently raising close to N$60 000 on the initiative’s first ever national impact day.
The first national Buy-a-Brick day which was held on Friday, 16 March saw Standard Bank employees mobilizing themselves across the country to collect donations at various traffic intersections.
“At Standard Bank we believe that alleviating the housing shortage in the country is each one of us’ duty as responsible citizens. Since we launched our flagship Buy-a-Brick initiative in 2015 we have seen our own Blue Bankers take ownership of it and we are proud to announce that we raised N$59 179.30 during our first national impact day which was held a few weeks ago,” Standard Bank’s PR and Communication’s Manager, Surihe Gaomas-Guchu, said this week.
With the Bank’s Chief Executive (CE), Vetumbuavi Mungunda, at the helm, Standard Bank employees across the four corners of the country took to the streets to “Shake-a-can” for the initiative, raising the astounding amount in just a couple of hours on morning of 16 March.
Aside from the “Shake-a-can” campaign, Standard Bank employees have previously raised funds through innovative activities like a fundraising march, a fashion show and a basement bash, to name a few. All the proceeds raised through the fundraising efforts will be handed over to the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN), who will in turn loan it to the organisations members so they can build their brick houses.
“Our annual fundraising efforts aim to empower disadvantaged Namibians who currently live in shacks to build decent brick houses for themselves. These are people from our communities, our friends and families so it is important that we make it our responsibility to actively find ways to avail funds to make this possible. Our Standard Bank employees have been working tirelessly towards that end and we would like to thank them for all their work. Their efforts are exemplary and all Namibians should follow their lead,” she stressed.
By donating as little as N$5 to the initiative, members of the public can help put a roof over the heads of no or low income households, thereby alleviating the housing shortage in the country. The public are encouraged to donate to Buy-a-Brick by downloading the newly launched PayPulse App or make their deposit at any Standard Bank branch countrywide.
